Effective Ways To State Your Responsibilities On Your CV

The current financial climate makes job hunting harder than ever, more people are out of work and looking for employment and companies are cutting back where they can so have no jobs to offer. One place you can pretty much rely on to have jobs available is at Tesco Jobs.

You’ve completed the easier parts of your CV, your personal details, education etc. You now need to state your responsibilities.Actually writing down your working responsibilities can be harder than you think when you are trying to impress a potential employer.Firstly, consider the job area you are looking at working within. It is important to remember that all of your achievements, objectives and experience count towards proving that you are the ideal candidate for the job so it is important to include as much detail about these as possible.

When listing your professional work history, you should highlight those responsibilities that will show that you have the qualifications for this next stage of your career. Competition for jobs can be tough, therefore it is important that you use key words in your CV that have also perhaps been used in the job advertisement or specification. You need to try different wording throughout the CV. Instead of beginning each line with ‘Responsible for’ use other verbs. You may use communicated, developed, managed, or other creative ones that you can think of. These key words get straight to the point of describing your responsibilities, which is exactly what the employers are looking for.

It is wise to choose your words carefully, you do not want to sound as if you were responsible for an entire project if you were only communicating the project to co-workers.

Normally the first job that you list on your CV, is your current job, so be sure to use the present tense when listing the responsibilities of that position, since you still maintain that position.

If you find that the details of your responsibilities and work experience are a little lengthy then firstly make sure you have stated those responsibilities which are most relevant to the job you are applying for. If you then need to cut short your details you can be sure you have already added the optimum details most applicable for the application. As an example, if you are applying for management positions, select your most relevant management and team responsibilities so you can specifically highlight your experience and skills in this area.

Bullet pointed lists are a great way to list your experience and responsibilities in a way that is specific and to the point, allowing recruiters to quickly read through your details and gain the key information they are looking for. Employers won’t always read through your entire CV and will be easily dissuaded if it appears too lengthy. Finally, a poorly formatted CV will get you nowhere. Employers may feel that a poorly spelt or formatted CV could be a reflection of your work. Spell checking on your computer is very useful but it is also recommended that you read through several times yourself and, if you can, get someone else to read through just in case you have missed anything.
